Intro & Beginner Classes
Reloading for Beginners
An in-depth overview of reloading products such as; the reloading press, dies, gauges, their role on your bench, and how to get the most out of them. Immediately followed by setup and use of Full-Length sizing dies and shoulder bump dies.
Intro Into Chambering for Accuracy
A detailed overview of the chambering process. Barrel defect identification and correction (if possible), dialing in a barrel, cutting, reaming, crowning and polishing a match barrel will all be covered. This is not a hands-on class but videography is encouraged.
Follow NRA Master gunsmith Thomas “Speedy” Gonzalez as he fully inlets a custom stock for use in F-Class competition. Watch as he preps the stock for work as well as inlets, pillars, and beds the barreled action. An in-depth conversation about why and how he differs from many others will be given as well as measurable changes that happen during the process.
Intermediate & Advanced Classes
Now is the time to dig into your reloading process and correct the issues that may have been causing you to have unknown fliers or high es/sd numbers. Students bring their own reloading setups including but not limited to: presses, dies, powder, primers, brass, and bullets. Each student, after short discussions about reloading for accuracy, will set up their equipment and begin to identify and eliminate the issues they had previously found.
Focusing on the key elements of short-range benchrest shooting, students will be guided through the procedures and diagnostic identification as to why their groups open up. Whether that is reloading technique, bag and rest set up, wind calls, or human error, all will be covered in this robust class. Taught by short-range benchrest hall of fame member, Speedy Gonzalez, this class is a wonderful stepping stone for any shooting discipline.
Students will focus on the finer points of chambering. Correcting errors as they arrive in real time. Learning how to take in progress measurements, what the readings mean and change on the fly if needed. Once mastering all of these attributes we hope you will have chamber run out of less than .000050
Made by Students
Students will learn about the lathe, common parts, tooling, and functions. They will then learn how to properly dial in a barrel, chamber, and thread to competition standards.
Students will observe and discuss proper stock set-up in a Sharp Knee Mill and the tools used during inletting. Then they will witness the inletting of a custom stock used for short-range benchrest or F-Class competition. This is a fully immersive class with question and answer periods throughout the day.
This will be a group of 5 for the post F-Class Nationals held in Raton, NM. The drive from Raton to San Antonio is approximately 9 hours. We will be covering various chambering idiosyncracies and how to identify and correct them. Hopefully, leading to a chamber with a run out of .000050
